Parsimony Week event at K-supermarket Superi, Sastamala Finland

The Parsimony Week event concerning compost and the handling of organic waste was held at K-Supermarket Superi yard in Sastamala on Friday 25th of April from 2 pm to 6 pm. Organizer of the event was the "parsimony group" of Sastamala College.

Nuukuusviikko (the parsimony week) is annually organized by Kierrätysliike (Recycling Movement). Kierrätysliike consist of 20 non-governmental organizations. The main idea of Nuukuusviikko is to enhance the sparing use of natural resources as well as prevent the amount of waste. Organizations, associations, communities and circles of friends are encouraged to organize events during the week. For this year (2014) centralized activities or joint theme weren't planned. However our own event was organized already for the second time in Sastamala. Last year the theme was the wasting of food in households and this year we concentrated in organic waste.

In the event garden compost was built, Biolan composts and dry toilet were introduced and bags for organic waste were fold. Visitors could also get acquainted with worm compost which can be used indoors. Loimi-Hämeen Jätehuolto Oy (Local waste handling company), Polarset Oy and Tyrvään Vihertoimi were involved in the event. The event was part of curriculum of Sastamala Community College and Learning Vs Crisis -project.
